Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania has been a dream of mine for the last 15+ years. I always thought that it would be amazing to stand at the top of Africa’s tallest mountain – the roof of Africa. Talking to people that did it before me, I knew that it would be a tough challenge, physically and mentally, but I was determined to do it.
I was diagnosed with early onset of Osteoarthritis at the age of 19 and knew that I needed to climb my mountain before osteoarthritis stopped this from happening. This was also the reason I asked Andy to help me prepare for my climb, so that I was physically on top form for the climb. Andy was fantastic in looking into how I needed to physically train in the lead up to the event and helped me to keep track of my progress by working on my cardiovascular fitness and building up the strength in my legs. I’m pleased to say that I made it all the way to the top, Uhuru Peak – 5,895m above sea level. It was tough but the work I did with Andy made sure I was physically prepared to do the challenge.
Thank you once again for preparing me for this event and I look forward to our next session!
